Xi Zeta Chapter

About Alpha Phi Omega

Alpha Phi Omega is the largest collegiate fraternity in the United States, with over 366 chapters, 17,000 active members, and over 350,000 alumni.

We are a professional special-interest fraternity dedicated to community service. Like many other professional fraternities, we are co-educational and we promote community service, leadership development, and social opportunities for our brothers. We encourage anyone with an interest in service to join; this includes members of other social fraternities and sororities, special interest houses at RIT, and anyone else who would like to help us make a difference on our campus and in our community.

Our fraternity was founded on the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law of the Boy Scouts of America by a group of students who wanted to continue promoting these principles throughout college. In its modern incarnation as a co-ed fraternity, we continue promoting these values among our brothers, though no longer require BSA membership to join.

Xi Zeta Chapter at RIT was chartered in 1963 and has had a long and important history here on campus. In 1965, the fifth pledge class of Xi Zeta purchased and installed the Victory Bell in Ritter Arena, which is still rung at every hockey game by the Corner Crew. Our chapter also organized the purchase of Spirit the tiger cub, who is still immortalized today on the Quarter Mile in between the SAU and the Library. To this day we maintain a strong presence here on campus by ushering all of the men's hockey games, running blood drives, holding charity fundraisers, and hosting an annual Broomball tournament at the Ritter Arena.
